SHS Students Shine

Congratulations!

 

Girls and Boys State Representatives Named

Madison Glidden, daughter of Tiffany and Levi Glidden; Madison Marten, daughter of Lisa and Adam Marten; and Emily Martindale, daughter of Jennifer and Jeff Martindale will represent the Brewster American Legion Auxiliary at Girls State in  Lincoln, Nebraska this summer.

Matt Dailey, son of  Rhonda and LeMoyne Dailey was named the Boys State Representative and will also attend Boys State this summer in Lincoln.

 

County Spelling Bee Champion!

Rhett McFadden, son of Rick and Dawn McFadden won the Blaine County Spelling Bee on February 4 in Halsey. Rhett's winning word was controversy. Kyle Cox, son of Rachel and Tyson Cox was the runner-up.

 

Junior Olympic Qualifier!

Matthew Dailey, a junior at Sandhills Public School won the Junior Olympic qualifying shoot in Gering and Mitchell.  Matthew Dailey was the top male competitor in both Air Pistol and Rim Fire pistol. He won the overall gold medal in both as well. 

Once scores from across the nation are tallied at the end of February, and the results finalized the shooters will know the outcome of their efforts. With the scores they fired they should all be invited to the USA Shooting Junior Olympic National Championships in Colorado Springs the end of April.

 

HOBY Representative Chosen!

Sandhills Schools would like to Congratulate Courtney Swisher. Courtney has been selected to represent Sandhills at the Hugh O'Brien Youth State Leadership Seminar.
At HOBY, high school sophomores build their leadership potential through an inspiring three- or four-day Leadership Seminar based on three leadership perspectives: Personal, Group, and Societal.

 

Natural Resources District Local and State Competition

Charlsie Teahon won the local and state levels of the NRD Poster Contest. Charlsie received a Certificate of Award and $25 gift card for her efforts. 

 

 

Three Students Selected for UNK Honor Choir!

Three Sandhills choir students have been selected to participate in the UNK Honor in January.  Jacob Furrow will be singing in the Festival Choir, Lindsay Cody will be singing in the Women's Choir and Miriam Ganoung will be singing in the Honor Choir.

 

Sing Across Nebraska!

Three middle school students were chosen to be part of Sing Around Nebraska. Rylyn Moody, HayLynn Glidden and Caleb Furrow.

 

Congratulations to Miriam Ganoung!

Each year, approximately 3,000 of the best high school musicians in the state audition for the Nebraska All-State Band, Chorus, Jazz Band and Orchestra
which are sponsored by the Nebraska Music Education Association.


Selection as a member of one of these groups is one of the highest music honors attainable in Nebraska. Mr. Chris Storm, Director of Choral Affairs for the Nebraska Music Education Association, is pleased to announce that Miriam Ganoung, a sophomore at Sandhills Public School will be among the 440 students selected to be a part of the 2019 All-State Chorus. Miriam is the daughter of Kris and Kristen Ganoung of Halsey.

 

Guest conductor for the group will be Dr. Brady Allred, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Salt Lake Choral Artists in Salt Lake City, Utah. The All-State Chorus will rehearse Thursday, November 21 through Saturday, November 23 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, the host site of the 2019 NMEA Conference/ Clinic. A final public concert will be held on Saturday, November 23 at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

 

Congratulations to Emily Martindale! 

Emily has been selected to represent Sandhills Schools at the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) State Education Conference on the Student Advisory Panel. Emily will sit with students from around the state and answer student-focused questions from school board members and school administrators. Emily is a junior at Sandhills and is the daughter of Jeff and Jennifer Martindale of Brewster.
