FFA

 


The Sandhills FFA Chapter is the oldest career student organization in the school.  Established in 1974 just a year after the school was built.  Miss Emilee Elwood is the advisor of the chapter. She is in her first year at Sandhills.

2018-2019 School Year Results:

 

The Sandhills FFA Chapter had a great overall performance this year in competitions.

 

To start we had very promising results at District Range Judging in Brewster on September 13, 2018. Emily Martindale, Madison Marten, Brett Downing, and Matthew Dailey received green ribbons and Logan Hafer received a red ribbon. Overall our team was first overall at Districts. At State Range Judging in Imperial on September 27, 2018, Matthew Dailey and Brett Downing received green ribbons and the team placed 13th in the state!

           

    On November 6, 2018, at the District Livestock Judging in Curtis, Zack Bradley received a white ribbon, Ty Bass and Emily Leach received red ribbons, Colinn Winkelbauer, Kylie Hewett, Madison Marten, Logan Hafer, and Madison Glidden all received blue ribbons, and Brett Downing, Reece Zutavern, Emily Martindale, Matthew Dailey, and Cooper Bass received purple ribbons. Matthew Dailey placed 2nd, Cooper Bass placed 5th, Emily Martindale placed 6th, and Reece Zutavern placed 7th; these four students placed 1st at the district contest as a team, qualifying them for the Nebraska State FFA Convention.

 

            At the Leaderships Development Events in North Platte on December 4, 2018, Brea Branic received a red ribbon and Reece Zutavern received a blue ribbon in Creed Speaking. In Extemporaneous speaking, Emily Martindale received a blue ribbon and Ty Bass was 2nd receiving a purple ribbon qualifying him for state. Jacy Hafer participated in Employment Skills and received a blue ribbon.

 

            At the first Career Development Events in North Platte on February 6, 2019, students competed in the Food Science contest. Reece Zutavern and Madison Marten received white ribbons, Zack Bradley received a red ribbon, and Jacy Hafer, Logan Hafer, and Emily Martindale received blue ribbons. Zack, Jacy, Logan, and Emily placed 5th as a team at districts, just short of qualifying for state.

 

           At the second Career Development Events on February 27, 2019, for Natural Resources, Fletcher Pollard received a white ribbon. For Meats Judging, Emily Martindale received a white ribbon, Logan Hafer and Madison Marten received red ribbons, Jacy Hafer received a blue ribbon. The meats team placed 3rd place and will be competing at the state competition. In the Welding competition, Cooper Bass received a white ribbon in GMAW, Matthew Dailey received a blue in Stick Welding, Ty Bass received a blue ribbon in OA Welding, Colt Hesseltine received a purple in GMAW, and the team placed 2nd qualifying for state.

 

           Ty Bass will be receiving his State FFA Degree at the 91st Nebraska State FFA Convention in April.
